How to choose the right one
-
Check the intended use
You should match the kayak’s design to your typical paddling environment. The Aqua Marina Tomahawk 14-Foot is built for speed-focused tandem touring. Its 14-foot length helps it cut through water efficiently. If you plan to cover long distances on open water, this touring design suits your needs. The MEMBA 12'10" also targets long-distance touring. It prioritizes stability and distance over raw speed. Choose based on whether you value quick acceleration or steady, long-range cruising.
-
Consider seating capacity
Both models in this guide are designed for two people. The Aqua Marina Tomahawk 14-Foot supports a tandem configuration. This means you need a partner to paddle with you. The MEMBA 12'10" also has a 2-person capacity. If you often paddle alone, these might not be ideal. You must ensure you have a second paddler. Both kayaks are constructed to handle the weight and balance of two adults. Check your group size before buying.
-
Evaluate construction type
Both kayaks use inflatable construction. This affects how you store and transport them. Inflatable kayaks can be deflated and packed into bags. The Aqua Marina Tomahawk 14-Foot weighs 44.8 pounds. The MEMBA 12'10" is lighter at 37.5 pounds. Lighter weight makes carrying easier. Heavier weight often correlates with durability. You should consider how you will move the kayak from your car to the water. Inflatable materials also impact stiffness and performance.
-
Look at included accessories
Check what comes in the box before you buy. The Aqua Marina MEMBA 12'10" includes a paddle. This is a significant value addition. You get a complete setup right away. The Aqua Marina Tomahawk 14-Foot does not list a paddle in its included accessories. You would need to purchase one separately. This affects your overall preparation. Always verify the accessory list to know what gear you still need to acquire.
-
Compare width and stability
Width influences how stable the kayak feels on the water. The Aqua Marina Tomahawk 14-Foot has a width of 31 inches. This narrower profile aids speed. The MEMBA 12'10" is wider at 35 inches. This extra width provides more stability. If you are a beginner or carry heavy gear, the wider model may feel safer. Narrower kayaks require more balance but track better. Choose based on your comfort level with stability versus speed.
